Direct Payments are money given to individuals by social services to enable them to buy services which meet their needs.
To get a Direct Payment, you must first be assessed by Social Services who will decide what money you will be awarded based on their findings.

What is an Individual or Personal Budget?
An Individual or Personal Budget puts the person who is supported in control of deciding what service or support they receive.
The individual gets a clear, up-front idea about how much money they will get allowing them to use the money in a way which is best for them.

What is Self-Directed Support?
The previous social care system in England did not put people in control
of the choices which affected their life, so Self-Directed Support was
created to address this.
The Government would like all local authorities to change to
Self-Directed Support.
This means that an individual can undertake a self-assessment and create
a support plan which identifies their needs. Once the plan is agreed, funding
is put in place to allow the plan to happen.
